My name is Pau Vilanova and I was born in Vilanant, a small village in the Empordà region (Catalonia), in 1988. I have always felt a deep curiosity to explore the land where I grew up. I am inspired by the metamorphosis of a landscape that emerges from the sea, unfolds across open plains beneath a sky caressed by the tramontana wind, and extends westward into amphitheaters of cliffs sheltered by lush forests—imbued with scents, colors, and silence—before culminating in the rugged peaks of the Pyrenees, amid deep valleys and rivers full of life.

My work stems from this sense of proximity, driven by the desire to celebrate the wildlife around me through an artistic and poetic approach.

“Being there without being there” is the heart of my philosophy, the basis on which I build my approach to wildlife photography. A non-intrusive attitude that becomes the starting point for what I call “the art of waiting”: remaining still for hours, embracing uncertainty, becoming part of this shared space without leaving any trace other than my own gaze, and avoiding any interference with the natural course of events. It is only through calm and respect that nature can continue to reveal itself.

I believe that the dialogue with the landscape becomes particularly profound at the threshold between day and night. Fascinated by twilight atmospheres, I have learned to observe the world differently, opening my gaze to a more suggestive and intimate dimension of the creatures that inhabit it.
